Tropical Storm Butchoy hits Western Luzon and Visayas

 Tropical storm “Butchoy” is expected to intensified into Typhoon and may bring heavy rains over western Luzon and western Visayas throughout this weekend, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster.

Tropical Storm Butchoy hits Western Luzon and Visayas

PAGASA weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said "tropical storm Butchoy can developed into typhoon while over the Philippine Sea on 24 hours."

However, Tropical storm Butchoy was not likely to hit land according on latest weather forecasts.

PAGASA administrator Nathaniel Servando said in a press conference. “If Butchoy’s movement will not change, it will not make landfall.”

PAGASA weather bulletin posted on their official website, "At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "BUTCHOY" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 620 km east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (10.3°N, 132.0°E) with maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 15 kph. Southwest monsoon affecting Luzon. "

Meanwhile, PAGASA advised residents of western Visayas and Mindanao to prepare for monsoon rains beginning today while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
